As a portfolio website designer and developer, my goal is to create websites that effectively showcase my clients' work and style. In this case study, I’ll share how I developed a portfolio website for Olivia Bennett.

Background:

Olivia Bennett is a freelance photographer with over six years of professional experience. She specializes in capturing natural, authentic moments, with a focus on storytelling.

Olivia’s passion for photography began when she inherited her grandfather’s vintage camera, which led her to study visual arts at NYU. Over the years, she has worked with numerous clients from around the world.

Olivia needed a portfolio website that would showcase her artistic versatility while also functioning as a professional tool to attract future clients.

Showcasing Versatility: Olivia's work spans multiple genres, from portraits to corporate events and travel photography. The website needed to demonstrate the breadth of her work while keeping the user experience simple and intuitive.

My Approach:

Design with a Storytelling Focus: I designed the website with an emphasis on visual storytelling, allowing visitors to experience Olivia's photography in a dynamic and immersive way.

Full-screen galleries were used to create an emotional connection with each photo, with a natural flow from one category to the next.

Portfolio Structure and Categorization: To organize Olivia's diverse body of work, I created five key categories for her portfolio:

Portraits: Highlighting candid, emotive portraits and family sessions that capture the essence of her subjects.

Lifestyle: A collection of everyday moments, styled shoots, and authentic storytelling.

Events: Focusing on her work in both corporate and personal events, showcasing the energy and atmosphere she captures.

Editorial: A more artistic and creative space, displaying Olivia's editorial and commercial photography.

Travel: Featuring Olivia's explorations and storytelling through travel photography, capturing the beauty of different cultures and locations.

Each category had its own dedicated gallery, allowing users to easily navigate to the genre they wanted to explore.

Clean and Minimalist Design: The website employed a minimalist design with a neutral color palette to keep the focus on Olivia's photography.
